Path to a New Beginning

This year has been a wild ride!

None of us could have predicted all of the crazy things that have happened during 2020.

Many aspects of “normal life” have disappeared, and time has become a lot more fluid.

It's been interesting to watch how some days feel like they last a week and the next goes by in a flash. I know I’m filling my days with something, but sometimes it’s a stretch to remember what I did yesterday.

If you're like me, you have been spending a lot more time looking inward.

I am making choices about what's truly important to me for the long term, on a daily, and sometimes hourly, basis. Old patterns are being dissolved, some with surprising ease.

For example, I am the main “holiday cheerleader” in my family. When it came time to plan how we were going to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, I could feel my mother bracing for a storm of upset from me. The look of relief on her face made me laugh when I said, “Let’s shut it down this year and keep it really simple. Let’s stay home and do our best to stay healthy so that we can hug each other at the holidays next year.”

I was honestly surprised at myself that it was so easy to let go of all of my “usual expectations” this year.

I took a look at what was really important to me and significant about those holiday gatherings. My priorities were connection, celebrating each other, gratitude, and limiting our exposure to COVID.

That’s it.

Like Dr Seuss says in How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, “’Maybe Christmas,’ he thought, ‘doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!’”

People before things.

We used technology to gather for Thanksgiving by setting up multiple Zoom calls with various family groups. We got to “see” people from all over the world and celebrate our love for each other. I’m looking forward to doing the same at Christmas.

There are lots of other shifts that have happened. I have finally started a meditation practice. My husband and I have been going on regular walks. I have been working with some amazing friend/mentors on business and self-expansion.

Have I gotten my whole house cleaned? No. Am I sticking to my regular workout plan? No. Is there still room for growth and improvement? Yes!

But breaking patterns from the past, I am not beating myself up about it.

This year has been hard. For everyone!

As we enter December, what do you want to take forward into 2021? What is important to you? What are you leaving behind to make room for the new?

I’m excited to gather the lessons and gems from 2020 and carry them into a shiny new 2021!

Let’s get together and name those things. I’m excited to support you!!
